Recipes & Uses:
Use to flavor cocktails as you would a simple syrup, or flavoring syrup such as grenadine. Pairs with vodka and rum.
For sodas, our syrups are typically mixed in a ratio of 1:6 or 1:7 with chilled, sparkling water. This creates a traditional-strength soda in terms of flavor and sweetness.
The molcajete is a century-old mortar and pestle used by Mexican cooks. Its rough surface is made entirely of volcanic stone, ideal for grinding and releasing flavorful oils from vegetables and spices. Like cast-iron, your molcajete bowl can go in the oven, retain heat for an hour, and it picks up flavors over time, continually enhancing the foods you’re working with. Perfect for salsa, guacamole, queso, mole, and more. Appx. 7'' diameter.
Better with time
Nothing compares to the flavors that volcanic stone brings out of spices and vegetables. The more you use it, the more flavor and character you get. One day, you’ll be ready to pass it on to your grandkids. Its rough surface is made entirely of volcanic stone, ideal for grinding and releasing flavorful oils from vegetables and spices.
Better with friends
Our molcajete can make guac for one, but we found that everyone loves to gather around. Grab some chips, grab some friends, and you’ve got yourself a piece of kitchenware and awkward-situation-insurance. Each molcajete is packed in a tortilla basket made of handwoven palm leaves to serve in style. Each basket is unique in color and pattern. You can use the basket for corn chips, or tortillas.
Care & Curing
Just like cast iron, molcajetes need to be cured, or “broken in”. Small grains of the rock can loosen from the surface when it’s first used, giving your food a gritty texture. Curing helps smooth the surface.
Here’s how we recommend curing before first use:
Rinse the molcajete with water (or let soak in water overnight), then clean with a wire brush, or toothbrush, to get rid of surface debris and dust.
Place enough rice to make an even layer across the bottom of the molcajete.
Pour in about a tablespoon of water, then use the pestle to work the rice up and around the entire inner surface of the molcajete until the rice has formed a grey paste.
Rinse out the paste, and repeat the rice grinding until the resulting paste is no longer grey.
You can then repeat with garlic, onion, cumin seeds, rock salt, or cilantro to add a seasoned flavor before your first use.

Tagine is a multi-purpose word in Moroccan culture used to describe the earthen, cone-shaped, tabletop cooking vessel used to steam dishes and impart flavor, as well as a category of recipe prepared within the very vessel. Tagines serve as both the cooking vessel and the serving dish for double-duty use.
If it's not broken, don't fix it
Descriptions of food cooked "tagine style" date back to the 9th century classic, The Thousand and One Nights. A lot has changed in the last thousand years or so, but an appreciation for a good home-cooked meal is not one of them.
The reason this cooking method has endured for so long is because tagines allow food to carmelize while cooking and to stay warm for longer when serving. By virtue of slow-cooking meat at low temperatures, effectively braising it until tender, a variety of cuts can be used. Take it from Paula Wolfart, author of The Food of Morocco. She writes, “clay pots coddle food, bringing forth bright, natural flavors and an unctuous tenderness. Clay pots produce tender, juicier, tastier meat without basting and often with less fat; they heat evenly; they retain moisture, so the food remains succulent.” #yum
How They Are Made
Our tagines are formed from the rich, red Moroccan soil of Wadi Lan, and then decorated with a lead-free glaze. Add color to your dinner table with our soothing teal, arresting red, bright white, or beautiful blue. Learn more about the artisan tagine maker here.
Pair this beautiful tagine with one of our other unique Moroccan ceramic pieces such as the serving bowl, couscous platter and our Beldi cups!
Curing, Care & Dimensions
We highly recommend curing your tagine before first use. See detailed instructions for curing here.

Pat dry, then brush surfaces with olive oil and place in a cold oven.

Turn off the oven and let the tagine cool completely.
After cooking, wash your tagine with hot water and baking soda, then pat dry and rub with a little olive oil. Not dishwasher safe.
*Small cracks in the ceramic are normal and over the years, the patina they create gives evidence of your cooking skills!
Dimensions 9" tall / 11" diameter
