Organic Three-Beet Powder (Refill Pouch) by Dr. Cowan's Garden
Regular price $40.00Regular priceUnit price perBeets, called red carrots in Europe, are one of the undisputed stars of the vegetable world. Research has identified three main medical uses for the common beet. The first is as a liver/gall bladder tonic because of its abundance of betaine, a phytochemical that thins the bile, thereby allowing for better bile flow. Beets have also been traditionally used to treat anemia, especially in children, because of their iron content. And, finally, recent studies have shown that beet powder is as effective a blood-pressure medicine as conventional treatments, most likely because of the presence of nitric-oxide precursors found in the beet root.
Our Three-Beet Powder is made from three varieties of certified organic beets (Detroit Red, Chiogga and Golden) that were grown using biodynamic principles by family-owned and operated Markristo Farm in Hillsdale, NY. Because of its intense flavor and abundant nutrients, Three-Beet Powder can be used in any dish, from salads to desserts (especially with its traditional complement, chocolate).
Our favorite way to use Dr. Cowan’s Garden Three-Beet Powder is a teaspoon added to yogurt (along with a half-teaspoon of Ashitaba Powder) and a splash of maple syrup.
We recommend adding this powder to your empty Miron jar as soon as possible to increase its longevity.
Inside this jar are approximately 50 servings!

Organic Root Medley Powder (Refill Pouch) by Dr. Cowan's Garden
Regular price $35.00Regular priceUnit price perOur Root Medley Powder is a blend of equal parts parsnips, rutabaga, and celeriac, all organically grown. These historical vegetables originated in Europe and Central Asia.
Parsnips add a gentle sweetness to the blend, which works well in both sweet and savory dishes. They are high in fiber, minerals — in particular, manganese, which is needed for bone health — vitamins and anti-oxidants. In folklore, parsnips were used as an aphrodisiac, probably because of their ability to support hormonal health.
Rutabagas are a member of the brassicas (cabbage) family, which has been selected for its robust root development. Rutabaga roots impart a spicy, tangy taste to this blend, which works particularly well in soups and meat dishes. Rutabagas are rich source of sulfur-containing compounds that aid in detoxification processes.
The final component is celeriac, which adds an earthy, celery-like flavor. Celeriac is the root of the celery plant, which, like most roots, is also rich in fiber, minerals, and anti-inflammatory compounds. Celeriac is particularly rich in potassium, which supports the health of blood vessels and, like celery, has traditionally been used to support numerous detoxification processes.
One teaspoon of this blend added to most dishes will provide a flavor and nutritional boost, thanks to these three stalwarts of the wonderful world of root vegetables.
Inside this pouch are approximately 50 teaspoon-sized servings!
Ingredients: Parsnips, rutabaga, and celeriac. All organic. Nothing else.

Organic Low-Oxalate Greens Powder by Dr. Cowan's Garden
Regular price $45.00Regular priceUnit price perOxalates are simple molecules found in the leaves of many plants. For some susceptible people, when excessive amounts of oxalates are ingested, the oxalates bind with calcium in the blood and cause both damaging inflammation and precipitation in the form of kidney stones.
Again, for susceptible people, lowering the oxalate intake in the diet is a way to prevent stone formation, reduce systemic inflammation and, in general, achieve better health. The dilemma, however, is that a low-oxalate diet can lead to the avoidance of otherwise very beneficial foods, such as greens. That is why we developed our Low-Oxalate Greens Powder.
After researching the oxalate content of various greens, three emerged as the most tasty and nutritious while significantly lower in oxalates than others. Our locally sourced, organic lacinato kale, collard greens and mustard leaves will give you the health benefits from the regular consumption of green vegetables while reducing your oxalate exposure.
Enjoy as you would our other green powders. Our favorite way to use our Low-Oxalate Greens Powder is folded into scrambled eggs or sprinkled liberally over soft-cooked eggs.
Inside this jar are approximately 50 servings! One teaspoon equals an average-size serving of the fresh vegetable.
Oxalate analysis (according to testing done at the University of Wyoming):
Soluble oxalate: 47.9 mg oxalate/100 g (3.9 mg oxalate per Tablespoon [8.1 grams]
Total oxalate: 950 mg oxalate/100 g (77.0 mg oxalate per Tablespoon [8.1 grams]
From Dr. Michael Liebman, professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Wyoming:
"Oxalate in foods can be divided into that which is water soluble and that which is insoluble in water. Total oxalate includes both soluble and insoluble oxalate. There is quite a lot of evidence that soluble oxalate is better absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract than is insoluble oxalate, so a person who is sensitive to oxalates should be more concerned about the soluble oxalate (the vast majority of insoluble oxalate is probably not absorbed so is not an issue). For this particular product, only a relatively small percentage of the total oxalate is soluble, so that is a positive."

Organic Leek Powder by Dr. Cowan's Garden
Regular price $40.00Regular priceUnit price perLike other members of the allium family, leeks are antimicrobial, help reduce inflammation and regulate lipid levels in the blood. Leeks contain important amounts of the flavonoid kaempferol, which has repeatedly been shown to help protect our blood vessel linings from damage.
Leeks are an excellent source of Vitamin K, which helps regulate the body’s inflammatory process, and they also offer good amounts of manganese, Vitamin B6, copper, iron, folate and Vitamin C. Leeks are also a good source of Vitamin E, calcium and omega-3 fatty acids.
Many people don’t realize that the most nutritious part of alliums is their green shoots. We feature this part of the plant in our leek powder to enhance not only its flavor but also its nutritional power. The varieties we grow are King Richard and Autumn Giant.
The flavor is a sweet and mild onion-y flavor. To use, sprinkle on salads, eggs, rice and quinoa, buttered popcorn, steamed or roasted vegetables, fish or chicken. Sea-Vegetables Powder (Wild-Harvested) by Dr. Cowan's Garden
Regular price $25.00Regular priceUnit price perOur Sea-Vegetables Powder is a blend of dulse, wakame and kelp, all harvested off the coast of Maine. They are certified organic and are thoroughly tested for any trace of contamination by such things as heavy metals and radiation. It has a more "oceanic" flavor than our mild Nori Powder, and it's packed with vital nutrients.
Dulse, a kind of red algae, has been used in Europe for at least 1,500 years, and there is a reference in a Chinese health manual from 600 BC about the necessity of feeding red dulse to the Chinese kings to insure their longevity. Dulse is rich in such minerals as iodine for thyroid support, chromium for blood-sugar regulation and manganese for supporting healthy bone formation. It is also rich in valuable omega-3 fats and other fat-soluble carotenoids.
Wakame is used liberally in traditional Japanese cuisine as a flavoring in soup as it pairs well with miso. The most intriguing aspect of wakame is that it is rich in a chemical called fucoxanthin, which inhibits the accumulation of fat in cells, thereby preventing obesity. Its use as a safe and natural weight-loss aide is being studied. Because of the ability of fucoxanthin to inhibit the accumulation of fat, it also lowers the LDL levels in the blood.
Kelp has been shown to lower the serum estradiol levels. Finally, kelp is rich in sodium alginate, which has been shown to reduce the absorption of radiation from the gut by 50 to 80 percent.
A delicious blend (with a stronger ocean taste than nori), our Sea-Vegetables Powder is easy to use in soups, sprinkled on eggs or as a flavor enhancer for any savory dish. Our favorite way to use our Sea-Vegetables Powder is added to bone-broth soup with eggs and fresh vegetables.
Ingredients: Wild-harvested dulse, wakame, kelp. Nothing else.

Wild Ramp Powder (Wild-Harvested) by Dr. Cowan's Garden
Regular price $38.50Regular priceUnit price perFulfilled by our friends at Dr. Cowan's Garden
The wild ramps in this powder were foraged in May from the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. Wild ramps are rare in the marketplace because their season is only a few weeks long, and they grow only on the forest floors of the eastern United States and Canada. Also, they grow slowly and take up to four years to flower and reproduce, so sustainable harvesting is a must.
This powder is a delicious way to add a wild vegetable to your daily diet. Wild and perennial vegetables are key to diversifying vegetable consumption (and to ensuring optimal health) because of their extra-rich nutrient content.
Because the powder is stored in a Miron jar, this tender and uniquely flavorful plant is now available for year-round cooking as a delicious powder.
Wild ramps are in the allium family and are often referred to as wild leeks. Prized by the best chefs, they have a distinct onion-garlic flavor. The entire ramp is generally used in cooking, and we include the whole plant in our powder.
Wild ramps are a rich source of such valuable minerals as selenium (which supports immune function), chromium (needed for blood-sugar regulation), and iron (for production of healthy red blood cells). No doubt, their nutritional richness derives from their mining the humus from the cool forest floor.
In addition to being a rich source of minerals, wild ramps are also a good source of choline, which is needed for brain development, and of the sulfur-containing compound kaempferol, which protects the lining of the blood vessels in our bodies. Our favorite way to use Wild Ramp Powder is mixed into soft butter to be used over steaks or roasted chicken, or for sautéing vegetables. It's also delicious sprinkled liberally over sliced potatoes before roasting with sea salt and plenty of olive oil.

Organic Ashitaba Powder by Dr. Cowan's Garden
Regular price $55.00Regular priceUnit price perOur Ashitaba Powder is grown and air-dried by two of the premier organic and biodynamic growers in Northern California. As far as we know, we are the only company selling domestic, biodynamically grown ashitaba.
Ashitaba is perhaps one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables on the planet, containing more Vitamin B6 and B12 than your typical green vegetable. Studies indicate that it boosts the "immune" (detoxification) system, is diuretic, enhances stomach and intestine functions, and has anti-fungal properties. It also contains rich stores of potassium and manganese, which help ease diabetes, and it stimulates nerve growth factor (NGF), which is a protein that maintains the health connection between neurons and the brain.
It even has the power to rejuvenate your body’s cell properties, and many people claim they look younger after regular consumption of ashitaba.
In addition, the chalcones, a yellow pigment found in the ashitaba stem, is being intensively studied for its cell-regulating properties. We take special care to harvest the stems along with the leaves to ensure the best nutrient-phytochemical profile.
Ashitaba has a clean, herbaceous, celery-like taste with warm, spicy notes. To use, put a teaspoon or so in a tea bag and steep in hot water for a soothing tea. Sprinkle on salads, eggs, rice and quinoa, buttered popcorn, steamed or roasted vegetables, fish, or chicken. Add to smoothies, soups, stews, pasta, spaghetti sauce – really, anything you enjoy eating! Our favorite way to use Ashitaba Powder is as a tea with a tablespoon of coconut milk and a teaspoon or so of honey. A dash of cinnamon on top is nice, too.
